Workshop congratulations and Next Council Meeting

Congratulations to all of our new tutors from Saturday's workshop.  Welcome to CCLC.  From left to right -- Jean Artes, Pat Long, Jan Elliott, Aileen Summerlin and Trishna Kresslein.          Our next event -- Because election night is on November 6, our November monthly meeting has been changed to Tuesday, November 13, starting at 7 pm, here at our office (United Way House, 10250 La Plata Road (Rt. 488), La Plata.  Come and meet our tutors, have questions, come for answers, learn about CCLC.   One hour once a week to make a tremendous impact in an adult's literacy education.

If you can read this -- you can teach and make a huge difference in someone's life.  Want to volunteer within your community -- this is a great opportunity.  The need for our service is great within our county and the need for tutors is as well.  Our last workshop for the year is coming up on Saturday, October 27, from 9 am to 3:30 pm.  You must pre-register for the workshop.  Call our office at 301-934-6488 or email us at charlescountyliteracy@comcast.net for all the details.

CCLC's first Adult Spelling Bee fundraiser was held on Saturday, September 8.  Such a success!!  Heartfelt thanks goes to all who assisted us with the success:  the Waldorf Lions Club  -- Old Waldorf School and Sandy Middleton  -- Chesapeake Country Cruizers -- the CC Public Libraries and staff  -- Southern Maryland Newspaper  -- Bozick Distributors. All of you went far beyond.  And huge thanks to all of our Sponsors: SMECO, Community Bank of the Chesapeake, Milloffs Catering, Christ Church Durham Parish, CSM, BB&T Home Mortgage, BES & Associates, Inc, Creighton Nationwide Insurance and Sandra McGraw.  And to our teams!!  Thank you everyone for making our first adult spelling bee a success.  Together we did it!!  We will be back!

Teams of  3 or 4 will compete against each other for the championship. Form a team from families, friends, churches, schools, workplaces. Individuals are welcome to cheer on. Admission is $30 per person, includes heavy appetizers, sweets, soft drinks and water. Beer and wine available for sale.  Join the fun and spirited night.
