Congratulations to our 16 new volunteer tutors who just completed the
fall 2012 tutor training workshop! They are: Robin Bowyer, Gloria
Bryant, Michelle Burgess, Dinah Cord, Susan Cross, Carrie Dotson,
Patricia Evans, Angela Garvey, Pamela Hanes, Kathy Joy, Mary Lawson,
Annie Lyles, Ruth Phillips, Lori Ray, Richard White and Tasha
Vanlandingham. Training took place over a three night period at the
Lifelong Learning Center. Tutors received nine hours of instruction and
received certificates on the final evening. Some of the comments on the
workshop from the evaluations we received from the new tutors follow:
All reported that the workshop either "exceeded" or "met" their
expectations, "Excellent training, well-paced, a variety of activities",
"A lot of good information, and they did a good job of imparting it."
"Positive, encouraging, motivating." They also enjoyed the student
presentation from a current adult learner, Mr. Cutchember. One tutor
wrote "It's great to hear first hand from a student" and another "I
found this one of the most helpful sessions." The new tutors are now in
the process of being matched, one-on-one with waiting adult learners in
the areas of reading, basic math and English for speakers of other
languages. Many thanks to our co-chairs, Edna Troiano and Meg Overbey,
our board of directors, all the presenters and everyone who helped
organize and put together another successful workshop.
